it is my great pleasure to invite you to participate in the
10th Rodens & Spatium
The International Conference on Rodent Biology
which will take place in Italy from Monday 24th to Friday 28th July 2006.
The conference will be held at the University of Parma. The town is considered the core area of the Italian food valley because it hosts a great number of food factories that are well known all over the world. The town is located near the Apennine Mountains where some very important wildlife and wilderness areas are. Parma and its University will be, therefore, an ideal location for the Conference.
The 10th R&S will encompass four full conference days supported and sponsorized by the Italian Theriological Association, The Center of Alpine Ecology of Monte Bondone (Trento).
The conference program will offer oral & poster presentations grouped in thematic symposia covering a wide variety of topics.
THE HISTORIC ROLE OF RODENT RESEARCHES
MORPHOLOGY & PHYSIOLOGY
PHYLOGEOGRAPHY & BIOGEOGRAPHY & METAPOPULATION
RODENTS AND THEIR BEHAVIOURAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL ADAPTATIONS
RODENT GENETICS
POPULATION DYNAMICS
PREY PREDATOR RELATIONSHIPS
APPLIED ECOLOGY
ECOTOXICOLOGY & PARASITOLOGY
RODENTS AS BIOINDICATORS
RODENT CONSERVATION
RODENTS AS PEST
RODENTS AS ALIEN SPECIES
Furthermore
Asymposium on Apodemus spp. will be organized by P.G. Mendoca. I wait for other collaborations in preparing symposiums. I would like to propose, if it will be possible, a workshop on Chionomys nivalis and Arvicola terrestris. In an attempt to disseminate this information multiple list-serves have been utilized. My apologies for cross-postings.
Abstracts will be published byHystrix – The Italian Journal of Mammalogy.

The History of the Conference Rodens et Spatium
A series of conferences R&S was started in France (Lyon) in 1987. The first conference was not big and it was mainly about rodent ethology. The two following conferences took also place in France (1989 and 1991) and they were named in French "Le rongeur et l'espace". The increasing interest of the conference topic cause that from 1993 this conference is organized all over the world in official name "Rodens et Spatium". In conference usually participate about 100 scientists from all continents. Here is a list of the places were usualli about 100 scientists from all over the world participate to the conference.
